Need some mountains in your life soon? Whether you want to get away ASAP, or are actively planning a vacation for next summer, the Rocky Mountain city of Denver, Colorado has everything you need in a city getaway with easy peak access.

What can you get up to during a city break in Denver? This article will give you a few ideas to get your idea planning muscles a proper work out…!

Take in a major sports league game

The citizens of Denver are famous for their love of sports, be it as participators or as spectators. As such, it shouldn’t be too surprising that this city has teams in every major sports league in North America.

The Colorado Avalanche (National Hockey League), Colorado Rockies (Major League Baseball), Denver Nuggets (National Basketball Association), Denver Broncos (National Football League) and Colorado Rapids all have schedules that ensure that one of these teams will likely be home during your visit to Denver, so buy a ticket and cheer for the home team (unless your team is visiting, then cheer for them … discreetly!).

Tour the Coors brewery (or one of many microbreweries in the city)

Colorado produces more beer than any other state in the USA, with the Coors brewery being responsible for a large portion of that volume.

Tours are available of this facility in the Denver suburb of Golden, where visitors are shuttled through the production line, the cooling room and a museum that details the history of this classic American brand of suds.

If you aren’t a big fan of corporate brews, you can take a tour that will visit a number of microbreweries in Denver’s LoDo district, a cottage industry that has exploded in the past generation.

Take in a show at Red Rocks Amphitheater

While there are many shows that go off at the Pepsi Center when the Nuggets and the Avalanche aren’t playing, try to catch a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater during the warmer months of the year.

Built between a series of rusty coloured flatiron rocks in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains only ten miles west of downtown Denver, many bands grace this special place with their presence.

In 2015, this included groups like Cage the Elephant, the Barenaked Ladies and Widespread Panic. While the 2016 season is off in the distance, you can be sure that they will have another great summer music lined up for your getaway next year!
